Originality also for OC by shynfir Originality also for OC by shynfir
Second attempt for a little stamp... I shall edit this when I find how to make beautiful shadows on GIMP ^^;

I got better on BG, don't you think ? =D My first animation with Gimp, such a pain *_* (it was so clear, fast and easy with PS...)

I got this idea when I noticed a kind of evolution in my OC's stories. I created most of them when I was younger, a shiny little teenager who had no boyfriend, so I created beautiful, powerful, free men to make amateur novels. But as I grew up a little, got several BF, experiment sex and so on, I realized these sorts of OC were kind of boring and did not show any interest except their beautiful face/body, or their so-called madness... They just were big *poseurs* and I added weaknesses to them progressively. A little bit of fear here, a tiny bit of incomfort or sadness over there... I even admitted that other "humanoïds" could overpower them in certain fields !! And I found myself better in my fantasy world since I could deal with some interesting cracked material and not only black kinghts with a sadistic smile =D

Since then, I'm a little embarrassed when I see other OCs like this : they are all beautiful, middle-aged, immortals, powerful, a little evil and sarcastic... Especially in fantasy worlds. It is nice for eyes but it gets old... Jason was so much more interesting after he left Medea : he's weak, he's an old fart, he's a bastard ! THIS is fascinating ! And Medea, yeah she's beautiful and powerful, but she's also deeply hurt, she has betrayed her family and cannot forgive herself, and she reaches a point of madness enough to kill her children... THIS is fascinating.

Weaknesses are great ! ^^

Aw, sorry for my English... And thanks for stopping by and for reading all this ! 8D
If you disagree with me on this matter, I'll be most happy to discuss it with you ^^

Giving ocs disabilities, such as Asperger's and bipolar disorder as well as OCD are ways to not make them Mary Sues or Gary Stus. I've done those with my ocs.

My logic:
More stronger OC = More severe weakness(es). If you make them overpowered, then make a weakness for them that severely handicaps them, in a way that makes sense that is.

I would like to make an OC that looks super OP, but in reality it's all just a facade. Looking like a level 99 Boss without the boss-like strength. They're fun to design, but to use them in a story I will not; unless there is a legitimate reason why they're so strong. Even still, everyone has an Achilles Heel.

All of my OC's have flaws because well...Nearly all my OC's are human and the others have the flaws I saw in my friends&enemies (sorry for my English) I don't like flawless OC's because they're not original or realistic to me.

I'm just starting to give my OC's flaws.
One of them, Nora is a tough, pretty girl who can kick butt even without powers with nothing but hand to hand combat and a gun, but she's got flaws too. She is so super focused on her mission that it annoys her friends and makes her unable to relax, she doesn't allow herself to get close to anyone because being a time traveler, she learns that everyone will die while she stays young, and she while she seems happy, she sometimes cries herself to sleep.
Then there's River who has anger problems and is a wild girl who never takes anything seriously enough in Nora's opinion, and she was separated from her parents at a young age. She is incredibly powerful, but she is also flawed like everyone else.
Regina is well, a geek who thinks things through and can sometimes be incredibly naive and gets picked on a lot, sometimes even from her friends, but she's far from helpless.
I try to keep my OC's balanced, like they seem perfect but they're really not. By the way, I love this stamp.

Then explain to me how a character can have no flaws and be absolutely perfect? hmmm? If a characters has no flaws they won't struggle. It will leave no room to really develop an oc. As 'orginal characters' should be able to.

Very few OCs of mine are overpowered, and one of them only because he worked for it his whole life. He has weaknesses, they just aren't particularly obvious.
Every OC starts somewhere... but if they're a copy of another character, and you recognize that, FIX IT! It may take some work, but there are always little things you can change to make your OC more... well... Original!

I think both types are wrong. The "ALL MIGHTY NEVER WRONG" type and the "GOOD FOR NOTHING EMO KID". Think about your characters as people. Yes, a person can be smart, powerful and beautiful at the same time. But does this mean he is happy with his life? Does everybody find him beautiful?  Is he strong mentally or physically? Does he like his life the way it is? What does he think about himself? How does he use his abilities? Its funny that most writers think that their characters will destroy everything and show off while doing it. WHY? Why would he do that? What would others think of him? Why would be overreact if he knows the consequences? People around him pay attention to everything he does. Don't forget that strong characters need a "hand of order" to keep your world functioning. And the stronger they are, the harder it is for you to contain this character in your world. If he is all powerful why didnt he use his powers? The story wouldn't happen. THE END.

There are so many things to consider before making a ULTRAAWESOME character. On the other side, characters who are really "good for nothing" will also have their good  moments.

Ok I think I'm not making sence anymore. ANYWAYS. I love this stamp. :dummy:

I'm actually starting to give my OCs weaknesses. From Violet being incredibly finicky. To Hataro generally being very naive and incredibly forgiving and can even trust a guy that basically has "I am Evil" stamped on his head.

Even Piwi. Who was basically an artificial girl designed to fight has huge flaws. Several at that matter. Here's a small list might I add for my personal favorite.

- Having the attention span of a walrus.

- Cannot be able to swim.

- Having a purple quail and a green phoenix as parents. Along with her little brother Hataro.

- While she's "somewhat" powerful. Piwi does not understand what "strategy" means. Making her incredibly predictable. Completely making her main purpose somewhat pointless.

- Has a huge sense of pride. And generally charges headfirst into fights without a single thought of planning.

- Her constant use of physical close-combat moves tend to make her incapable of fighting ghost-like monsters and puts her at a disadvantage against people with a balance of close and long range attacks.

- Having very low stamina. And is about as durable as 2 wooden planks.

- Throws tantrums whenever she loses a fight.

- Did I also mention she always like spewing out cheesy one-liners.

I do to as well makes them quite lovably cute. Wether it's Violet being incredibly finicky. Or Hataro being incredibly naive.

But Piwi basically becoming my favorite because of what I'm planning on giving her as weaknesses.

If it isn't because she's incredibly lazy and tends to be easy to agitate.
It's mainly her lack of combat training and incapability to swim.
And did I mention she was an artificial girl originally DESIGNED to fight?

... She was also adopted by a purple quail and a green phoenix and now has a
Fella-esque cockatiel for a little brother named Hataro.

I agree, I admit when I 1st did my OCs they were also incredible in 100% ways but now I am a old literature geek lol I appreciate flaws more, I love when I hate a character it makes them so believable! flaws are so great and gives a story so much dimension, I mean if your OC is epic and immortal then give him/her a epic flaw, like extreme cruelty or extreme narcissistic. My dream comment for my OC is that one day I read "wow your Oc is a real bitch" lol

Flaws are a beautiful thing, they give a character a back story, and above all, limits to combat along with their inherent life's challenges. Being a person with a load of OC's and a series for them to be in, I love seeing someone evolve their own character into something more than just a drawing. I love seeing their characters become PEOPLE.

Imperfection IS beauty. I love my OC's. I love their flaws, and try to accept them like anyone else's flaws. My OC's have odd addictions. My OC's sometimes throw temper tantrums. My OC's get ill during cold and flu season and aren't always strong enough to care for themself, so they rely on another on of my OC's. My OC's make stupid mistakes 24/7. I love the fact that OC's CAN have flaws. Perfect OC's always have seemed a little stuck up to me.

Flaws make an OC perfect. Perfectness, i.e 'SHE WAS OH SO BOOTIFAL AND EVRI1 LUVD HER AND WANTED TO FUK HAR BCUZ SHE IS A ANGEL FAIRY VAMPIRE WULV LOLOLOLOL AND ON TOP THAT SAYEN PRINCEZ SIS OF VAGETAH AN SANGOKU'...makes a Character unbelievable and ridiculous.

Weaknesses in OCs are good; especially if it makes them more relatable to the view/person who is seeing/reading about them.

What I meant with being more relatable is making them sound like they could be real people. Also not using overused traits. Like maybe having an OC who's a single parent, or giving them a realistic job.
